Weekend Recap from Omaha!

By: Nicole Mikluscak

Happy Monday from Omaha! I’m hoping everyone had a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend! Spring here has been rainy and cold, and we are so thankful we finally got to enjoy some sunshine!

My 7 year-old, Lily, is very excited to celebrate Spirit Week at school starting today. Her first grade class color is light blue and they are “soaring with spirit!” We began our Saturday by hitting up Party City and Hobby Lobby for lots of light blue supplies and goodies for all the different theme days they have this week. (God Bless the teachers on these crazy weeks!!!!) Today is accessory day and Lily chose this bandana and flowered lei! She also managed to find a giant sombrero for one last Cinco de Mayo party we had that evening!

After our errands we decided we needed some Mother’s Day pampering, and we visited our neighborhood nail salon for mani-pedi’s! The girls love this place because they get to sit in giant butterfly chairs. The funniest part of the day was when my 4 year old, Maeve, asked the technician for a Diet Coke. I think she was feeling very grown up! Fast forward 24 hours later, and she has picked the nail polish and rhinestones off every little finger!

Saturday evening, we attended a truly authentic Cinco de Mayo party that friends of ours were hosting. This party was AMAZING. My friend Keelin and her husband thought of everything. They had a craft station for the kids to make maracas, potato sack races, and of course, a giant piñata. There were piles of sombreros and accessories for a photo backdrop, Jell-O shots, and a margarita station. Her mother-in-law even taught all of us how to make the delicious tamales we had been eating all evening. We had the best time! Here are some fun pictures from their party.

Sunday morning came quickly as usual, but I was happy to sleep in! The girls surprised me with sweet Mother’s Day cards they made at school, tulips, and a new purse! (Guess whose husband visited Clear Lake Cousins for gift ideas?!) My husband also got me a gift certificate for the style profile company Stitch Fix! I am so excited to get started! I’ll share my experience with you all soon. After coffee and mimosa’s, we went to Le Peep for my favorite Eggs Benedict! Maeve made sure to get extra whipped cream on her cocoa and pancakes! We got to spend some time with my in-laws (and DQ ice cream cake!) later in the afternoon and enjoy the sunshine.

The best part of my day was spent sitting on my porch with a glass of wine, watching the girls play in the front yard. I felt very spoiled and loved on this Mother’s Day, that is for sure! Wishing you all a great week ahead!

Kids Spring Wardrobe Staples

By: Nicole Mikluscak & Brittany Eaton

Hi everyone! Spring has sprung! At my house that means cleaning out closets and shopping for some new duds for my girls, Lily & Maeve! I’ve enlisted the help of my favorite boy-mom too! Brittany is my sister-in-law and mom to my nephews, Patrick & William. We’ve teamed up to share kids’ clothing favorites from an unexpected spot!

We were both pleasantly surprised with Walmart’s offerings this Spring. Brands Wonder Nation and Avia have both hit homeruns this year in the girls’ section. There are so many cotton basics and practical options for busy kids on the go, without too many crazy patterns and embellishments.

My oldest daughter is a big fan of summer skirts with the shorts built in. Wonder Nation and Avia Activewear both provided this summer staple for under $10. Sun dresses were in abundance as well. My four year old will LIVE in the yellow and lilac pair all summer! The best part is of course the affordability. It is hot and humid here in the Midwest in the summer. We run from various camps, to the pool and lemonade stands all season! Comfort and cuteness at a great price is the name of the game for us! I’ve linked some of our favorite choices below!

Hi all, it’s Brittany here with some boy picks! If anyone else out there has boys, you know that they need multiple pairs of everything! My boys ruin shoes and clothes like it is their job. And the chance of getting it passed down to their younger sibling? Yeah, right. So when I came across Walmart’s adorable and cost friendly finds online, I couldn’t wait to check them out in person.

Just look at these crab, pineapple and dinosaur swim trunks. And for less than $7?! It doesn’t get better than that.

My boys LOVE to wear rain boots. They love them in the Fall, Winter, Spring, and yep, you guessed it – in the summer too. Why? Because they can put them on all by themselves. That’s a win and time saver for everyone involved! These boots are under $10!

I’ve saved the best for last. This Hawaiian print shirt is both artsy and adorable. I can’t guarantee that this white t-shirt will stay clean for more than a couple of minutes, but I can guarantee your little one will look cute wearing it, and it’s only $6.34.

Pop into Walmart kids this season! Whether it’s for play clothes and sandals, an extra swimsuit, or a lightweight dress to run around in, we promise you won’t be disappointed!

Power Breakfast Choices

By: Nicole Mikluscak

Hi all, it’s Nicole! I was on a quest this weekend to find some healthier grocery ‘swap outs’ for my family. While I was hoping to find a bit of culinary inspiration for myself, my girls were in need of high-fiber breakfast options (that they would actually eat)! I’m happy to report I found three options my girls gave the stamp of approval:

Nicole’s Copy-Cat Egg Whites and Baby Kale Breakfast Bowl with peppers, sausage & gouda

While in the frozen foods aisle, I stumbled upon the Dr. Praeger’s Egg Whites and Kale Breakfast Bowl. With ingredients like scrambled egg whites, kale, gold potatoes, onions, peppers and cheddar cheese, I thought, Surely I could make this myself right? I gave it a try and was pretty pleased with the results. One of the best parts of a breakfast bowl is you can tweak it according to your taste or diet. If you are doing low-carb, you can leave out the potatoes. My copycat bowl started with sautéed baby Kale and red peppers, Applegate Farms Chicken and Maple breakfast sausage, and some scrambled egg whites topped with shredded Gouda. It was surprisingly delicious and filling. (Not to mention cheaper!)

Hope this helps you get a healthy start to your day! I can’t wait to share more “foody finds” soon!
