New Idea for Easter Baskets!

By: Emily Heaston
My little bunnies on their first Easters!

Last weekend, Clare celebrated her friend’s birthday and we wanted to pick out a special gift. The birthday girl loves to bake and we had the best time picking out ingredients for her!

Every year, I like to put new swim suits, books, and chocolate in my kids’ Easter baskets, and this year I thought they might enjoy their own special ingredients for baking too! Here is what the bunny is bringing, and bonus–its so inexpensive and you get to eat cake at the end! I hope this helps for any last minute bunny shopping!

Unicorns for Clare

Mermaids for Cate

Funfetti for Teddy

I also got a large pack of cute Easter Bunny Baking Cups to split among the kids’ baskets. Nicole and I were just talking about how our moms would sometimes bake cupcakes into ice cream cones and I found the handiest baking rack so the cones won’t tip over in the oven–I can’t wait for it to get here to make these with my kids!

Happy Easter from our family to yours!

Power Breakfast Choices

By: Nicole Mikluscak

Hi all, it’s Nicole! I was on a quest this weekend to find some healthier grocery ‘swap outs’ for my family. While I was hoping to find a bit of culinary inspiration for myself, my girls were in need of high-fiber breakfast options (that they would actually eat)! I’m happy to report I found three options my girls gave the stamp of approval:

Nicole’s Copy-Cat Egg Whites and Baby Kale Breakfast Bowl with peppers, sausage & gouda

While in the frozen foods aisle, I stumbled upon the Dr. Praeger’s Egg Whites and Kale Breakfast Bowl. With ingredients like scrambled egg whites, kale, gold potatoes, onions, peppers and cheddar cheese, I thought, Surely I could make this myself right? I gave it a try and was pretty pleased with the results. One of the best parts of a breakfast bowl is you can tweak it according to your taste or diet. If you are doing low-carb, you can leave out the potatoes. My copycat bowl started with sautéed baby Kale and red peppers, Applegate Farms Chicken and Maple breakfast sausage, and some scrambled egg whites topped with shredded Gouda. It was surprisingly delicious and filling. (Not to mention cheaper!)

Hope this helps you get a healthy start to your day! I can’t wait to share more “foody finds” soon!

NYC Weekend Packing

By: Emily Heaston

Tim and I are heading to NYC tomorrow am, and I’m trying to decide what to pack! It’s nearly mid-April, but it’s FREEZING and last night it was hailing here in Iowa, so I’m having trouble picking out Spring clothes! It’s only in the 40s in NYC today too, so I need to pack warm stuff that will be comfortable for walking a lot! Here are some favorite early-Spring outfits for Saturday daytime:

ChildServe’s Bubble Ball 2019

By: Emily Heaston

Tim and I had a wonderful night attending the Bubble Ball Musical Mashup benefiting ChildServe. I wanted to share a quick recap of the night which featured amazing performances from the Brazilian 2wins and a runway show with costumes made out of bubble wrap! We were thrilled to be a part of ChildServe’s big night which raised money to invest in state-of-the-art technology for the children and teens they serve right here in Iowa.

I loved wearing my Vince dress from Blond Genius and paired it with comfy linen Toms espadrilles. I loved the vintage rose color for early spring and can’t wait to wear it again. You can also find it here in black.

An Ode to My Favorite Headband

By: Emily Heaston

Look how happy I am!! And it’s not because we’re at Disney World–it’s because I love my black satin turban headband! I wore this all winter and it is soooo comfortable. NOT what my mom would call a headacheband. I wore this headband for four 12+ hour days straight of theme parks, and when we got home, I bought the pink gingham one! I am the Mom-Blair Waldorf!! Go buy one.
